And the Milley goes to…!

Nominations for 2025 are now open. Brochures and forms are available to download here. Hard copy brochures will be available by the third week of February at Mill Valley City Hall, Mill Valley Library, O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, Famous4 Boutique, and Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Paper nominations (no digital submissions) are due at Mill Valley City Hall no later than noon on Thursday, April 17, 2025. They will be screened by the Milley Awards Executive Committee to be sure they meet the criteria and are complete. All nominations will remain current for three years. Nominators may update and re-nominate their nominations annually.

NOMINATIONS CONTENTS

  • Please check with your candidate if he or she wishes to be nominated before you go forward.
  • Nomination should contain your personal statement of support plus at least three letters of support from others.
  • Maximum of ten pages of supporting materials such as biography, website URL, reviews, articles, press clippings or photographs. Ask your candidate for assistance with these materials.
  • Please include digital files, CDs, albums, books and other 3-dimensional examples of a candidate’s work with your nominations. These do not count in the ten-page maximum. They will be held for judges to consult at the Mill Valley Library and will be returned to you after judging.
  • Past successful nomination packets are available in the History Room of the Mill Valley Library to give you an idea of what needs to be included. Call 415-389-4292 to make an appointment.
  • Deliver or mail your nomination packet marked Attention: Milleys to

    All nominations must be received no later than 12 noon on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

RECIPIENTS

Recipients will be selected from the listed awards categories. Formal presentation of up to five Milley Awards will be made at a gala event on Sunday, October 26, 2025. All award winners will be acknowledged by the Arts Commission and the Mayor of Mill Valley. An appropriate permanent record will be kept by the Arts Commission of all honorees. Purpose

The Citizens of Mill Valley take this opportunity to honor those among us who, through their accomplishments in the Arts, have brought honor to our community. They have done this through their talents and actions in the state, national or international arenas. We wish to recognize their achievement in the Arts professions and their contributions to the creative life of the Mill Valley community.

  • Sali Lieberman Award  honors lifetime achievements of individuals who embody Sali Lieberman‘s inspiration, courage and determination. (Non-annual award.)
  • Vera Schultz Award honors achievements of organizations which embody Vera Schultz‘s activism, leadership, courage and vision. (Non-annual award.)

How to Nominate

Nominations should also include:

  • Nominator’s personal statement of support
  • Maximum of ten pages of supporting materials, such as vitae, testimonials, reviews, articles, press clippings or photographs. Ask your candidate for assistance with these materials.
  • Slides, CDs, albums, books and other 3 dimensional examples of a candidate’s work

As we navigate these difficult times and look forward to rebuilding a new future together, you can show your support for the artistic spirit of our community by nominating someone who has inspired with their art, is respected in their field, and left an indelible mark on the richness of Mill Valley.

Although nomination forms are typically available throughout the town, this year will be different. Please visit our website to download the application: www.milleyawards.org. The deadline for nominations has been extended to May 14, 2020 at 5 PM.

The 2020 Milleys marks the 32nd anniversary of the very first Mill Valley Award for Creative Achievement. The history and a complete list of previous winners can be found on the Milleys website.

“Mill Valley has a tradition for creativity and community dating back to the town’s founding in 1890,” notes Trubee Schock, co-creator of the awards with Abby Wasserman. “Beginning with the novelist Kathleen Norris in the early 1900s, Mill Valley has been home to more artists, writers, performers, musicians, environmentalists and filmmakers than any town our size. Creativity and creative thinking are the soul of Mill Valley. The Milley Awards has brought tremendous recognition to the lifetime contributions that animate and energize our community.”
