Bob and Elza Burton
Bob Burton and his wife, the late Elza Burton, have been active in supporting and participating in the arts ever since they moved to Mill Valley in 1966. Along with Sali Lieberman and other activists, Elza was a founding member of the Mill Valley Center for the Performing Arts (now Marin Theatre Company) and served on its initial Board of Directors. Bob served on the Board of Directors of the Marin Theatre Company in the 1980s.
While on the Mill Valley Planning Commission and City Council (which included two years as Mayor), Bob supported numerous artistic endeavors, including approvals related to the original Sweetwater. In 2018 Bob was recognized by the City of Mill Valley/County of Marin for 50 years of volunteer public service. Together Bob and Elza subscribed to and supported the Marin Symphony for more than 40 years, and the Marin Theatre Company and Mill Valley Chamber Music Society since their founding.

Michael C. Vogel
Michael, an arts producer and volunteer with many arts organizations, has served the community behind the scenes with skill and enthusiasm. For decades he has been the go-to guy when something is needed, from a WW II plane to fly over a production of “South Pacific” on the mountain to obtaining wine donations for a non-profit event. Modest, hardworking and enthusiastic, he gives generously of his time, and expertise. Among those who benefit from his knowledge and largesse are the Mill Valley Arts Commission, Mill Valley Film Festival, Mountain Play Association, 142 Throckmorton Theatre’s Comedy Night, and The Milley Awards.

Jim Welte
Through prodigious storytelling skills and as co-founder of the Mill Valley Music Festival, Mill Valley Chamber Executive Director Jim Welte contributes in multiple ways to our community’s creative life. In 2010 as newspapers languished, he launched and managed Mill Valley Patch, a news and information site, covering the local community with depth and accuracy. As longtime editor of the Enjoy Mill Valley blog, website and newsletter, Jim shines a bright light on artists, arts events, iconic institutions and nonprofits and the City’s Arts Commission and Library. He has a discerning eye for what’s important and is highly responsive to requests from artists, event organizers and organizations wishing to inform the community of their activities. In these and many other ways Jim is a vital contributor to Mill Valley arts.
