Welcome to the Nomination Page for the 2024 Milley Awards.

This year’s Milley Awards Ceremony will be held at the Mill Valley Community Center and will take place on Sunday, October 27, 2024. We look forward to everyone joining us!

All nominations currently submitted and all new submissions will be included in the judging for the 2024 Milley Awards

NOMINATIONS

All nominators will receive notification from the Executive Committee at the time of announcement of winners. Nominations from the community, due Thursday, April 18, 2024, will be screened by the Creative Achievement Award Selection Committee to be sure they meet the criteria and are complete. All nominations will remain current for a total of three years, not counting 2019-2022. Nominators may update and renominate their nominations annually.

NOMINATORS

  • Your personal statement of support plus at least three letters of support from others.
  • Maximum of ten pages of supporting materials, such as biography, websites, testimonials, reviews, articles, press clippings or photographs. Ask your candidate for assistance with these materials.
  • Please include digital files, CDs, albums, books and other 3-dimensional examples of a candidate’s work with your nominations.
  • Past nomination packets are available in the History Room of the Mill Valley Library to give you an idea of what needs to be included. Call 415-389-4292.
  • All materials must be delivered to Mill Valley City Hall by

RECIPIENTS

Recipients will be selected from the listed awards categories. Formal presentation of up to five Milley Awards will be made at a gala event on Sunday, October 27, 2024. All award winners will be acknowledged by the Arts Commission and the Mayor of Mill Valley. An appropriate permanent record will be kept by the Arts Commission of all honorees. Purpose

The Citizens of Mill Valley take this opportunity to honor those among us who, through their accomplishments in the Arts, have brought honor to our community. They have done this through their talents and actions in the state, national or international arenas. We wish to recognize their achievement in the Arts professions and their contributions to the creative life of the Mill Valley community.

Selection of Mill Valley Creative Achievement Award winners (“Milleys”) is based upon one or more of these criteria:

• Outstanding achievement in creating, performing or teaching in the Arts

• Demonstration of a significant body of work

• Service to the Arts community

  • Contributions to the Creative Life of the Mill Valley Community: Individuals whose vision, initiative and leadership played a major role in establishing and nurturing Mill Valley’s cultural treasures.
  • Sali Lieberman Award  honors lifetime achievements of individuals who embody Sali Lieberman‘s inspiration, courage and determination. (Non-annual award.)
  • Vera Schultz Award honors achievements of organizations which embody Vera Schultz‘s activism, leadership, courage and vision. (Non-annual award.)

How to Nominate

Nominations should also include:

  • Nominator’s personal statement of support
  • Maximum of ten pages of supporting materials, such as vitae, testimonials, reviews, articles, press clippings or photographs. Ask your candidate for assistance with these materials.
  • Slides, CDs, albums, books and other 3 dimensional examples of a candidate’s work

As we navigate these difficult times and look forward to rebuilding a new future together, you can show your support for the artistic spirit of our community by nominating someone who has inspired with their art, is respected in their field, and left an indelible mark on the richness of Mill Valley.

Although nomination forms are typically available throughout the town, this year will be different. Please visit our website to download the application: www.milleyawards.org. The deadline for nominations has been extended to May 14, 2020 at 5 PM.

The 2020 Milleys marks the 32nd anniversary of the very first Mill Valley Award for Creative Achievement. The history and a complete list of previous winners can be found on the Milleys website.

“Mill Valley has a tradition for creativity and community dating back to the town’s founding in 1890,” notes Trubee Schock, co-creator of the awards with Abby Wasserman. “Beginning with the novelist Kathleen Norris in the early 1900s, Mill Valley has been home to more artists, writers, performers, musicians, environmentalists and filmmakers than any town our size. Creativity and creative thinking are the soul of Mill Valley. The Milley Awards has brought tremendous recognition to the lifetime contributions that animate and energize our community.”

In addition to the Nomination Form, supporting documentation such as letters of recommendation and news articles are required.
